Common questions
- The map is blank or the heat layer is missing. The app needs one successful data fetch before it can score conditions. Check your connection and reopen the app; offline it falls back to the last bundled snapshot.
- My position or track isn't recording. Track recording needs location permission. On iOS, allow "While Using the App" (and Always, if you want recording to continue with the screen locked); on Android, allow precise location and background location.
- How current is the data? Ocean and weather layers refresh daily from public NOAA and Open-Meteo feeds. The app shows the data date so you always know how fresh the forecast is.
- Where are my tracks and catches stored? In the mobile app they stay on your phone unless you export or share them. See the privacy policy.
- How accurate is the heat map? It's a model, not a forecast of fish. Scores combine sea-surface temperature, thermal fronts, bathymetry, wind, sun and tide into a relative likelihood — useful for narrowing where to look, not a guarantee.
Safety
Bluewater IQ is not a navigation aid. Do not use it for piloting, collision avoidance, or as a substitute for official charts, forecasts, or your own seamanship. Depths shown are model-derived and are not surveyed soundings. Always carry proper navigation equipment and check official marine forecasts before departing.
Data sources
Conditions are derived from public data including NOAA (sea-surface temperature, marine forecasts) and Open-Meteo (wind, marine, tide and current models). Bluewater IQ is not affiliated with or endorsed by these providers.
